Well, the history is that the famous 'MANGA' writer and artist, Akira ( Doctor Slump) Toriyama, created an MANGA (comic) and ANIME (cartoon) series called DRAGONBALL way back in the '80s. It starred a young SON GOKU and his friends as they searched for the seven legendary DRAGONBALLS (because if they gathered all of them then the Dragongod would grant them a wish).
As the series progressed, the suffix 'Z' was added for some reason or other, and it evolved into the hit that it is today.
Unfortunately, DRAGONBALL and DRAGONBALL Z have never been released in England, so if there are any TV or comic publishing people out there PLEASE get the rights to Dragonball.
THE CHARACTERS (CHARAS)
This can get confusing: Son Goku has 2 sons, Gohan (who's alter ego is the super hero 'Sayaman') , and Goten (who I haven't done an icon of yet).Vegeta has a son named Trunks, and Piccolo (the alien) and Krilin (the one with no nose) are just everyone's friends.There are lots of other charas too, but I won't list them right now.
Funnily enough, some of the charas go 'Super Sayajin' (hence Sayaman) when they are fighting. This means that their hair gets (more) spiky and becomes golden. They also have some exciting fights scenes.
